My Favourite Farm Store

CONESTOGA GARDEN
PRODUCE
1228 Northfield Drive East
Westmontrose, On
(5 minutes out of Waterloo towards Elora)

I drive by this farm store every day on my way home from work, it's just before you get to Conestogo heading towards Waterloo from Elora. I stop at least twice a week for the freshest produce.

This farm store is great because they have a huge selection of vegetables and fruit that are in season. Many of the vegetables are from this farm, some are from neighbours while most of the fruit is brought in from Niagara (Fruitland, Beamsville, & Vineland).

Just 5 minutes out of the city you can find onions, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, carrots, potatoes, peppers, eggplant, zucchini, beans, corn, squash, pumpkins, fresh herbs, apples, berries, peaches, plums, and melon. Most of these have been picked that morning. This particular farm also sells preserves, pies, cookies and flowers.

Have you ever eaten tomatoes picked from the ground that morning? Or bit into a big, juicy apple plucked from a tree that day? If you have, you know how yummy your dish can be with fresh, fabulous food. In so many communities in Ontario we are lucky to have this luxury. Many of the recipes posted on this blog have been made with produce so fresh - it made us realize just what spinach is supposed to taste like. I love making soup, roasted vegetables and fresh pasta sauce the day I pick up these amazing veggies.

If you live in the Kitchener/Waterloo area, there are several great farm stores on your way out of town in most directions. It's best to visit the farms closest to your home or drive to work to get the freshest foods and reduce your impact on the environment.

Don't live in Kitchener/Waterloo? ... visit the "Eat Local" page to find farms in your area.

Much love & good eating,

Stephanie
